TOWNSVILLE'S Jana Peterson didn't think she had a chance of winning the Batercard Miss Indy title, so she packed only one evening dress in her suitcase. Now she's paying for it.

"I've had to borrow evening dresses from the other Indy girls," the 2005 winner said.

Jana raced into the hearts of teenage boys everywhere on Thursday after taking out the prestigious modelling title.

"I have to get up at 4.30am and then usually don't get to bed until about 2am that night - it's pretty crazy."

While most people imagine competitions like Miss Indy to be full of cat-fights and sabotage, Jana insists she's made great friends with the other contestants. "I share a room with two other Indy girls and we all get along really well. The only bad thing is that there is only one bathroom between us all, so it can get pretty crowded when we're trying to do hair and makeup."

Meanwhile, there is no romantic interest on her part towards any of the Indy drivers, claiming they're a little too short for her. "They're all 5 foot! And also, I'm with my boyfriend Peter - we've been together for 14 months."

So what's next for Jana?

"I'll be trackside every day, visiting corporate boxes, attending the Indy Ball, I have a photo shoot with Ralph magazine today and then I'm off to Mexico City to represent Australia at the Miss Indy World competition." Jana is also due to travel to Turkey in December to represent Australia in the Best Model World competition.
