What's with all the captchas recently?

Is it just me or has there been a massive increase in captchas recently? I am not just talking about on free downloads, but even on premium! I have filejoker premium and I can't even log into my account without having to do endless captchas! Even after I have done about 10 of the damn things it still won't let me log in - either on the web or in JDownloader.

What the hell is going on? Why do we have to waste our time with them anyway? What possible purpose do they serve on a free porn download? So what if a bot manages to dlownload the file.. what is the problem?

    Aaaagghhh!!!!

May not be ideal for the end user but for the webmaster it is a blessing. The modern reCaptcha cuts down on spam tremendously, blocks automated (careless) ripping and at the very least verifies a human is involved somewhere along the process.

If captchas reset, your ad blocker may be blocking essential elements. It's also possible a cookie with information about a successful captcha cannot be set due to some privacy related tools you be running.

"not ideal" is a bit of an understatement! I can't seem to get in at all now. And Filejoker won't reply to my helpdesk messages! I have asked for my money back as the site is unusable for me :-(

Independent of the filejoker issue (it is indeed one of the worst file-hosts out there), if I have observed correctly, the amount of captchas one has to solve to move forward/gain access seems to be site-specific. Some sites will require only solving a couple of them, some only one, and some upto 10, which leads me to believe that it seems to be a configurable option for the site-manager. Thus, borderline asinine sites like FJ will turn the knob to the max.
