Some great tips. Also a heavy Firefox user, try duckduckgo as your browser plugin - no tracking!.
Looking for a good download manager to use alongside VR, any recommendations ??

Quite like Ninja as a separate download manager... but haven't tried the FF integration yet. Seems half half on the reviews, for some it works fine, others it doesn't at all.
Not crippleware like a lot of em and fastest multi-segment downloader I've used. Interface is a bit different though, that probably comes down to personal taste.
Glitter Drag to customise ff link and text mouse drags
Can really streamline your browsing experience... including just drag a link in a chosen direction to copy to clipboard, for Vripper to pick up.
What do we do if the link to download the file does not work?
If you paste the link into ViperRipper and nothing happens, most likely that it was already downloaded in the past.
If the thread does appear in the job list then look at the numbers in the "Progress" column. For example, 39/82/121 means 39 successfully downloaded, 82 not available, 121 total. If you want to double check this, right click on the link and select "show in browser" which will show the thread and you can see if the images are still available. Normally you'll see all Red X's, or just a blank space when the images aren't available.
Problem:
Sometimes links just sit in the job queue and don't download at all no matter how many times you hit retry, or stop and start
Solution:
Try restarting the program. To my surprise, this often works and the links will now download. If not, try re-installing the program which often helps. (Handy guide for doing this here.)
Imagus addon for FireFox
Will give you a pop up of the full size image by hovering over the thumbnail. Works with a surprising number of hosts (not all though)... When the picture loads, press z to get a blown up view.
