The issue is a thing of the past as far as I'm concerned.

What's holding it back when I last checked when considering to lift the ban was the fact that more filejoker links than k2s links were posted on a daily basis with only a fraction of clicks. I do not have access to affiliate metrics for either FJ or K2S but I assume at FJ it's virtually non-existent. It is a spammy host causing pollution with little community involvement. It appears all the top filejoker posters left and/or started their own quality content blogs way before the host got banned.

K2S has no comparable competitor of scale. K2S is feature-rich and keeps exploring new ways to for users to generate revenue whereas all competition is lackluster and stale. Should K2S go down, it will bring down with it a large chunk of the affiliate porn Internet.

If anyone has suggestions, let me know. Perhaps it is time to switch focus on quality content providers rather than an open free-for-all platform.

To be honest the current system seems to be working just fine, we obviously already have a whitelist for imageshots, including a couple of affiliate imagehosts, and the rules generally allow for the use of any filehost that meets the requirements and isn't on the blacklist; At the same time we have this whole thread in which we all seem to do a pretty good job of keeping an eye on the hosts that do get used on here, such that any problem sites, or potential troublemakers, are usually fairly quickly identified and dealt with.

But to the observation you made about filehosts, while K2S seems to be fairly ubiquitous on here, there are a small selection of other pretty reliable filehosts being used to varying degrees throughout this site, e.g. rapidgator, 1fichier, sendspace, to name but a few; so even if K2S were to suddenly go offline for an extended period of time, it's not like VG would be left completely without any decent, reliable, alternative video and file-sharing options that we could immediately switch to.

So, seeing as how we already have this thread both to keep an eye on things and to provide whitelists and blacklists of hosts, perhaps one idea might be to create some kind of a (white)list of a few of the more popular/commonly used on VG filehosts, so that more people are made aware of those hosts in case K2S ever does have problems in the future, while still allowing the open rule of folks being able to use any filehost they want as long as the host both meets our service requirements and isn't on the banned list.

There was a poll about this question already a couple of years ago and people voted against it.
I'm still convinced this should stay this way. ViperGirls is second to none amongst major forums in the liberties it gives to all its users in general, choice of file-hosts being one of them.
Not being too reliable as a forum on only a few (or even a single) host, as already mentioned, is probably another good reason.

Yes, absolutely. Quality requirements and control are definitely necessary. An updated list of minimum expectations would surely prove very useful.


One thing in that regard: All you diligent "host-checkers", please be aware that parameters such as maximum file size and minimum download speed for free users can be manually set by affiliates on many hosts!
Means that in some cases it is possibly rather the specific user who should be sanctioned, than the host.

I also don't think there are per se "spammy hosts", but there are indeed very spammy posters. So, I'd suggest to rather regulate excessive low-quality spam-bots than complete file-hosts.

Just tried it out.

In Firefox with Ublock Origin, it did open the video in a new tab that played. I had to download it via a right click and "Save Video As..." No ads or pop-ups as Ublock Origin took care of them.

In Edge, it automatically started downloading once I clicked on the actual download link, so behaviour will vary by browser. Multiple pop-ups, video ads that spawn, and ads that open new tabs etc.

Regardless of how many clicks it takes to navigate to download the link, the site is dangerous in that it uses dark patterns to prompt more ad clicks, generate fake download links, or in my case a scam Ad Block extension installer.

What about filefox.cc

It was previously proven at the time of their ban that filefox and filejoker were essentially just two aliases of the same filehost, down to the fact that they even shared identical IP address details and servers, thus it wasn't possible to ban one 'alias' without the other automatically also being banned at the same time.

Given the reasons why they were banned, I can't imagine that decision will be reversed for quite some time, if ever.
